Robotic System for Chest Surgery
The Problem: The recovery period for patients who undergo surgery in which the chest bone is sawed is especially long and requires total rest for the bone to heal.
The Idea: Cutting the bone in a wave form (sinus) neutralizes the bone movement after the stitching and significantly shortens the recovery period.
The Solution: The development of a robotic system to perform the cutting of the bone in a wave form on two planes in a safe and reliable manner, subject to FDA approval.
The Result: Shafir developed a robotic system that was tested successfully on objects and is currently in advanced stages of certification.
